Bell Rock Tea Towel
The Bell Rock Lighthouse is a lighthouse located on a partially-submerged reef in the North Sea, approximately 11 miles off the coast of Angus, Scotland. It was built between 1807 and 1810 by Robert Stevenson, a Scottish lighthouse engineer, and is one of the oldest surviving sea-washed lighthouses in the world.
The lighthouse was constructed to warn ships of the hazardous reef, which had been responsible for many shipwrecks over the years. The construction of the lighthouse was a major engineering feat, as it involved building a structure on a reef that was submerged at high tide. The lighthouse is built of granite and stands 35 meters tall, with a base diameter of 12 meters.
The Bell Rock Lighthouse has been in continuous operation since it was first lit in 1811 and is still manned by a team of three lighthouse keepers. The lighthouse is automated, but the keepers are responsible for the maintenance of the structure and for monitoring the light.
